Privacy Policy
JapanHands is a community platform for discovering Japan-connected events and organizations. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our website and related services.
Who we are
JapanHands is operated by the National Association of Japan-America Societies, Inc. (NAJAS), 1819 L Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20036. JapanHands is intended as a neutral, community-serving resource—not as a single-organization promotional site.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use JapanHands, we may collect:
- Browsing and technical data — such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited
- Newsletter signup — email address, name, and optional interests you select
- Contact messages — information you submit through our contact form
- Organization applications and listings — applicant email, organization profile details, optional uploads (such as logos), and legal acknowledgments
- Organization Management — your registered email for secure sign-in, plus profile and event content you manage
- Public listing content — organization and event details you choose to publish on the directory and calendar
How we use information
We use information to operate and improve JapanHands, send updates you request, respond to messages and applications, authenticate organization representatives, and moderate and publish approved content. We do not sell your personal information.
Public versus private information
Approved organization and event listings are public so visitors can discover Japan-connected programs. Sign-in and application emails are not published as public listing fields unless you also provide them as a public contact email. Marketing newsletter data is separate from Organization Management sign-in.
Cookies
We use essential cookies (for example, the Organization Management session cookie) and may use platform cookies for site operation and analytics. You can control cookies in your browser; blocking essential cookies may prevent Organization Management from working. A short cookie notice appears on the site; dismissing it stores a preference in your browser and does not change how essential cookies work.
Service providers
We use trusted processors to operate JapanHands, including HubSpot (website, CRM, forms, and marketing email) and Resend (transactional email such as sign-in links). They process information on our behalf.
Retention and your choices
We keep information as long as needed to provide the service, for moderation and security, or as required by law. Marketing emails include unsubscribe links. You may contact us or email privacy@japanhands.org (messages may be handled via info@us-japan.org) to request access, correction, or deletion where applicable.
International visitors and children
JapanHands is operated from the United States. If you access the site from another country, your information may be processed in the United States. JapanHands is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The version and effective date below will change when we do. Material changes for organization applications and Organization Management may require renewed acknowledgment before you continue those flows.
