Frequently Asked Questions
What is JapanHands?
JapanHands is a free public resource for the Japan-related community in North America and beyond. It offers an organization directory, a shared event calendar, and email updates so people and organizations can discover programs and connect more easily.
What information is available on the platform?
Who is JapanHands for, and what kinds of organizations participate?
JapanHands is for Japan-connected organizations and communities across the U.S.–Japan ecosystem—and for anyone looking for Japan-related programs and gatherings. Participating organizations include a broad mix: nonprofits and other civil society groups, academic institutions and think tanks, industry chambers and professional associations, private firms, public–private bodies, and city, state, local, or national organizations in the United States, Japan, and third countries.
Is JapanHands free?
Yes. Core discovery is free for the public, and organizations can register and list profiles and events at no cost.
Who developed and supports JapanHands?
JapanHands was developed by the National Association of Japan-America Societies (NAJAS) in partnership with the American Friends of the International House of Japan (AFIHJ), with seed funding from the United States–Japan Foundation. NAJAS supports launch and ongoing sustainment. More about the partners is on the About page.
What might come later?
Today the focus is organization profiles and events. As participation grows, JapanHands may expand to include resources such as maps, speaker directories, alumni lists, research and scholarship information, and potentially career or employment resources. Those additions depend on community use and are not a fixed timeline.
