Pruning Meditation: Mindful Pruning in the Japanese Garden Tradition

Hosted by Japan Society of Greater Fairfield County

United States

A hands‐on small group program exploring how the care of a Japanese garden can become a focused, calming practice. This session is not a meditatioon class. Instead, Japanese master gardener Mr. Umeno will explain and demonstrate how attentive pruning can feel meditative through careful observation, waiting, and sensing what the garden needs. Landscape architect and Japanese garden designer Mr. Kurimoto will open with background on Japanese gardens and the gardener’s role. Mr. Umeno will then share his approach to everyday garden care and the mindset behind it.
