About
The Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE USA) is an independent, nonpartisan, nongovernmental, nonprofit organization founded in 1975. With staff in New York and Washington DC, we work as a boutique policy organization focused on US-Japan relations.
Mission
Our mission is to facilitate US-Japan collaboration in areas of mutual interest and need. We specialize in bringing together current and emerging leaders from both countries to promote mutual learning and drive policy impact on issues critical to the two countries as global partners. Through study tours and other exchange initiatives, our programs facilitate solutions-oriented dialogues on issues ranging from shared societal challenges to global concerns.
Programs
Legislative Exchange: For more than five decades, JCIE USA has been promoting exchanges between the Japanese Diet and US Congress. One of our key programs, the US Congressional Staff Exchange, provides a bipartisan group of US Congressional staff with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Japan and US-Japan relations through a weeklong study tour in Japan.
Health and Healthy Aging: JCIE USA promotes health and healthy aging through our US-Japan Program on Healthy and Resilient Aging, which provides a unique, bidirectional exchange that connects two communities in the United States and Japan facing similar challenges associated with population aging. We also support JCIE Japan’s Friends of the Global Fund, Japan (FGFJ) initiative to enhance Japan’s support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and its leadership in the global fight against infectious diseases.
Policy Research and Dialogues: JCIE USA regularly brings together policy experts and practitioners from the United States and Japan for events and webinars to facilitate their research and dialogues addressing pressing challenges facing both societies.
Opportunities
JCIE USA provides part-time internship opportunities for university students and recent graduates every quarter.
The majority of JCIE USA’s programming, including webinars and in-person roundtables, are free and open to the public.
